Introduction
Maybe you have seen the Christmas Star in the evening sky this week. I read it hasn’t been seen for about 800 years.
This is where Jupiter and Saturn have crossed in their orbits and the combined light from both have projected a super bright star in the sky. It is because they are aligned that the light is seen so brightly.
On that original Christmas there was something else aligned to be clearly seen.
And no I am not referring to the Star but the decrees of God and the prophetic witness of the Old Testament that was all aligning to illuminate the glory of God.
And that glory was being revealed to a young Jewish girl named Mary. Look at verses 30-31:
I. The Prophetic Convergence (30-31).
I. The Prophetic Convergence (30-31).
Just think of it? All of the Old Testament prophecies are coming to a point upon this young Jewish girl named Mary.
We have already looked at some of these prophecies in our journey through Advent.
We have seen the tribe of Judah being singled out as being the royal line as Jacob prophesied over his son near the end of his life in Genesis 49.
We have seen again the Messianic implications of Messiah’s rule from Isaiah 9. The child born and the Son given will shoulder the governments of the Nations. And His name will be reflect the absolute nature of His eternal dominion as the Messiah King of God.
Last Sunday we saw that the prophetic testimony pointed to a little insignificant place named Bethlehem. But what made it so significant was that the eternal God would give His Messiah to the world in this city.
The prophetic road of God’s revealed plan ran right through the town of Bethlehem on that original Christmas.
The Foretelling of the Kingdom is being spoken by the Angel Gabriel who was sent by God to a virgin named Mary.
And the Angel informs her of a few interesting things about herself that she may not have otherwise had known.
First he informs her that she need not be afraid because she has found favor with God. This favor from God is denoting that she is a recipient of the benevolent gracious disposition of God.
Second he informs her that she is going to conceive by the Holy Spirit and a Son will be born to her and she will call Him Jesus.
And Mary knew the impossible nature of this in the physical sense because if you go on reading she questions this due to her standing being a virgin.
What we see is the foretelling of the Kingdom is getting even more specific. We have moved from a tribe called Judah to a city called Bethlehem to a virgin called Mary.
This brings us right to the edge of the incarnation of the Son of God. Look back at verses 32-33:
II. The Prophetic Fulfillment (32-33).
II. The Prophetic Fulfillment (32-33).
The Son of the Most High God, the One that John describes in his gospel as the “only begotten” of the Father (KJV).
In the Greek NT the term used in both John 1:14 and John 3:16 is a compound word. The root term is “monogene”. Mono meaning “one” is combined with “gene”. We get our English term “gene” from it.
When the two words are connected it denotes that there is only one Son of God that has the “DNA” of His nature. All other sons are adopted into the family.
This is why the prophet Isaiah had it right when he declared His name will be called mighty God, everlasting Father (Is. 9:6).
And the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.
If you are keeping a paternity record at this point you may have noticed something interesting about this prophetic fulfillment.
He is the Son of the Most High God and the son of His Father David.
And He will be the recipient of David’s throne. This is a reference to the Davidic Covenant that God had made with King David back in 2 Samuel 7.
And this reign will go on forever. There will be no end to it.
That original Christmas is the birth, not of just any old ordinary King in the temporal sense but He is the Eternal King who will rule over all things for all time.

Conclusion:
Think of it, that eternal plan of God all converged on that young virgin named Mary over 2000 years ago. And she gave birth to a son named Jesus just as the Angel had said.
In a very real sense that grand plan converged through time and eternity to come to bear on that original Christmas when the King of glory was born.
It is ironic because it is through Christ coming into the world that the grand plan was made manifest through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
And that same plan has been converging upon the hearts of men ever since and it is here again to converge upon upon the hearts men and women tonight.
Perhaps tonight it is your night that your eyes will be opened to the truth of the gospel for your salvation.
There is no greater gift that God could ever give you than the gift of salvation. Believe by faith. Trust in Christ. Let’s pray!
